Parkhouse Pet Supplies in Dorchester backs appeal for Christmas toys

A Dorchester-based pet supply company supported the Echo of Dorset Christmas Toy Appeal to help ensure that no child is left without a gift under the tree this Christmas.

Parkhouse Pet Supplies on Marabout Industrial Estate have generously donated £100 to support this year’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

The Toy Appeal aims to ensure that children who would otherwise go without presents this year have a present to open this Christmas.

A spokesperson for Parkhouse Pet Supplies said: “We have been a local family business for 33 years and are happy to donate £100 to the Toy Appeal which is close to our hearts.

“Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. From Jane, Nick, Laurence and Rory.

Every penny of every donation goes directly to providing gifts to the less fortunate in Dorset.

Parkhouse Pet Supplies is a local family business originally founded as a wholesaler in Maiden Newton in 1989.

After three years, the business moved to downtown Dorchester and turned to direct-to-customer sales.

Despite the pandemic, last year the Echo received the highest amount of donations ever, £8,348, to the Toy Appeal.

Debbie Hellaby, Newsquest Group Promotions Manager, said: “Sourcing, collecting and organizing toys for hundreds of children is no easy task – the toys are generally age appropriate and to the interests of each individual child.

“We are delighted to accept the support of the Weymouth Rotary Club to facilitate the collection and classification of toys.”

We weren’t able to get our toy collection bins out last year due to the pandemic, but they are coming out this year. We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Weymouth whose members will help us with the toy collections.

We ask you to think of children in need this Christmas and buy an extra gift to put in a Dorset Echo Toy Appeal bin. You can see the bin locations below.
