Pet care tips: smart ways to improve your furry friend’s sleep

Furry friends are an integral part of the family and are always welcomed and adored as part of the family. It is therefore imperative to provide them with the right nutrition and a restful sleeping environment in order to enhance their growth and development. Just like humans, sleep is also an important part of a dog’s day, determining their overall health and energy levels.

Sleep helps a dog’s brain development, memory, and even immune function. Dogs that don’t get enough sleep may also appear to be in a “bad mood” and alternatively, if your dog’s sleeping habits have changed drastically, please consult a veterinarian.

A lot has changed in the way we take care of our pets and pet products are no exception. Choosing the right dog bed can be a daunting task, but with this guide, you can stop worrying about finding the right bed for your furry friend. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Kabir Siddiq, CEO and Founder of SleepyCat, shared, “While there are dog beds out there with all kinds of great materials, it’s important to find one that’s safe and doesn’t cause no reaction to your pooch.” He revealed the following tips on what to look for in a dog bed:

1. Easily washable – Pets, especially dogs, are extremely playful and mostly messy. A clean and odor-free indoor environment could be maintained with easily washable pet beds. An easily washable pet bed keeps pet’s coat dry and easy to burrow while drifting off to a comfortable, restful sleep.

2. Antimicrobial Properties – Pets are susceptible to frequently catching fleas, ticks, and any form of bacteria from the environment. An antimicrobial characteristic is essential to prevent and protect them against any form of allergy. Also helps pets to sleep peacefully without any trouble or unsanitary environment.

3. Design Features – A life-size bed strategically designed to match your dog’s body weight so they feel perfectly comfortable. A spill, scratch, chew and tear resistant bed with a super soft outer fabric will make your pet your pet’s favorite place at home.

4. Comfort – Pet beds that provide support and are specially designed to help relieve pressure and support their joints and spine. A pet bed designed with velor knit fabric allows pets to live in luxury for long naps and dreams.

Adding to the list of smart ways to improve sleep for your furry companions, Rashi Narang, canine specialist and founder of Heads Up For Tails, suggested:

1. Sleeping place – Our pets like to change their sleeping location during the night – you can find them in your bed, then on the floor or (if you’re lucky) in their own bed. They like to have a variety of surfaces to choose from, so give them a few options.

2. Lighting Preferences – On average, dogs need 12-14 hours of undisturbed sleep. As tempting as it might be to give that sweet, peaceful face a little goodnight kiss, it’s best to let them sleep soundly. Dark or dimly lit rooms with no sound are also helpful, unless your dog has other preferences.

3. A fixed daily schedule – Dogs develop on a schedule. Set their time for eating, walking, playing and sleeping and watch the difference it makes in their life and yours. Makes them less restless and keeps their mind calm.

4. Avoid eating before sleeping – It is best not to feed your dog just before his sleep time. Give a few hours of gap, as you would for yourself between dinner and bedtime.

5. The right temperature – Maintain room temperature based on the weather outside to ensure your pets don’t get too hot or too cold. Also provide them with a cozy and comfortable place during the winter months.
